Youth in Agriculture

The Youth in Agriculture programme seeks to encourage youth participation in agricultural value chain services, to ensure longterm food sustainability within poor farming communities where the average age of farmers is mostly 55 years. At Brooks Dreams Foundation, we believe that encouraging the youth to remain in agriculture in these communities will curb rural-urban migration, provide sustainable income and reduce crime. Again, by fostering a passion for agriculture and providing training, we empower the youth to transform farming into a profitable and fulfilling career choice.

We aim at providing young farmers with the necessary incentives and assistance to remain in agricultural production. As part of the programme, participating youth will be provided with modern techniques, sustainable practices, and access to resources such as agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, seedlings and other simple tools in the selected farming communities. As part of the initiative, the project will also solicit for assistance and technical support for those selected farming communities and help them market their produce in the urban centres. Participating communities will also be assisted to sell their produce in big restaurants and hotels.
In the long term, Brooks Dreams Foundation will also acquire a land for farming in some selected farming communities and cultivate model farms.

“If we get agriculture right in Africa, where most of the people now are working in that sector, not only would it help boost development
but we will be secure in terms of food and nutrition and then be able to move on to other areas.” – Kofi Annan
